Coast Guard continues monitoring clean-up efforts for WAPA’s tank 11 discharge, Lindbergh Bay oil spill in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands

Coast Guard personnel overseeing clean-up efforts for the tank 11 discharge at the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (WAPA) Randolph Harley Power Plant in St. Thomas formally extended efforts, Wednesday, to include the waterside oil spill clean-up efforts on the eastern shore of Lindbergh Bay. Coast Guard analysis linked the product found in Lindbergh Bay on Nov. 3, 2023, to the number 11 tank diesel discharge that occurred at the WAPA facility on Oct. 25, 2023.

Coast Guard rescues overdue mariner 270 miles off NC

CAPE MAY, N.J. — Coast Guard crews rescued an overdue mariner 270 miles off Hatteras, North Carolina, Wednesday. Coast Guard Sector New York watchstanders received a report of lost communications from the family of the mariner who departed Jersey City, New Jersey, en route to Bermuda, stating that they lost contact on Nov. 6, and that as of Tuesday, he was considered overdue.

The Coast Guard suspended the search Thursday for a missing 28-year-old man who went overboard from the Carnival Glory cruise ship approximately 30 miles southwest of Southwest Pass, Louisiana.

U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Polar Star departs Seattle to begin Operation Deep Freeze in Antarctica

SEATTLE – The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Polar Star (WAGB 10) and crew departed Seattle, Wednesday, and are scheduled to transit to Antarctica in support of Operation Deep Freeze. Operation Deep Freeze is an annual joint military mission to resupply the United States Antarctic stations in support of the National Science Foundation, the lead agency for the United States Antarctic Program. This marks the 27th year for the Polar Star to render support.

Coast Guard suspends search for overboard MSC Seascape crewmember north of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico

The Coast Guard suspended the search for an MSC Seascape cruise ship crewmember Wednesday night, who is believed to have fallen overboard in the Atlantic Ocean north of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. “My thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and fellow crewmembers of this young man,” said Capt. Jose E. Díaz, Sector San Juan commander.  “Losing a loved one or a fellow shipmate at sea is very difficult, may they find strength and closure during this most difficult time.  I commend the efforts of all the rescue units involved in the search efforts and truly appreciate the collaboration of our fellow partner agencies for their prompt response and assistance.”

Two Coast Guard crew members have been released from the hospital, and the investigation into the cause of an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter air crew crash on Read Island continues, Wednesday morning.
