U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Healy departs Tromsø, Norway following engagements with Norwegian Coast Guard, maritime government officials

TROMSØ, NORWAY- U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Healy (WAGB 20) departed Tromsø, Norway, Thursday, following a four-day port call, in which the Healy crew conducted joint operations with the Norwegian Coast Guard Vessel Svalbard, hosted a U.S. Coast Guard Research and Development Center (RDC) “science roundtable,” and welcomed aboard guests from a variety of institutions with interest in the Arctic and Healy’s science mission. Tromsø is Healy’s first port of call since departing Kodiak, Alaska, in late August embarking on a five-week long mission supporting the Nansen and Amundsen Basins Observational System (NABOS).

HOUSTON —  The crew of Coast Guard Cutter Reliance (WMEC 615), a 210-foot medium endurance cutter homeported in Pensacola, Florida, is slated to hold free, public tours of the cutter in Galveston, Texas, Sunday.

Coast Guard, partner agencies establish Incident Command following vessel grounding in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands

The Coast Guard has established an Incident Command at Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment St. Thomas and at Coast Guards Base San Juan, Thursday, to oversee vessel grounding response efforts in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. The Coast Guard is coordinating with local government partners, including Department of Planning & Natural Resources, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration experts, as well as the responsible party, to create a pollution mitigation and removal plan for the grounded cargo vessel Bonnie G.   The National Response Corp. is the oil spill removal organization contracted by the responsible party, who also contracted Playland Marine LLC to conduct salvage operations for the Bonnie G.

Coast Guard takes part in San Francisco Fleet Week with ship tours and community events

The U.S. Coast Guard will participate in the annual San Francisco Fleet Week from October 2-10 in San Francisco Bay. Throughout the week, the Coast Guard will showcase its capabilities and commitment to the community through various public engagements, including weekend ship tours of the National Security Cutter Waesche (WMSL-751) and Fast Response Cutter Benjamin Bottoms (WPC 1132), search-and-rescue demonstrations and recruiting booths with static displays at the Fleet Week Expo on the Marina Green from Oct. 5-8, and more.

Coast Guard terminates voyage of an illegal charter vessel in San Diego

Coast Guard terminates an illegal charter operation in the La Jolla State marine reserve protected area in San Diego, on Sept. 21, 2023. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife conducted a boarding of the state registered 20-foot pleasure craft, Lucky Duck, which had 6 people aboard (5 passengers for hire and 1 child). Charges were filed against the operator for violating state laws.

Coast Guard rescues 12 persons from M/V Bonnie G, aground off U.S. Virgin Islands

A Coast Guard boat crew rescued 12 people, Wednesday morning, after they were forced to abandon the M/V Bonnie G that was taking on water and ran aground just south of the airport in St. Thomas, U.S Virgin Islands. All 12 persons aboard the Bonnie G, a 195-foot Vanuatu-flagged “ro-ro” cargo vessel, are safe and no injuries have been reported to the Coast Guard. Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment and response personnel in the U.S. Virgin Islands are working with the Bonnie G vessel company to assess the current pollution threat. The Bonnie G is reported to have approximately 13,000 gallons of fuel and approximately 250 gallons of lube oil onboard, and the vessel was carrying six cars, a truck, a trailer and two pallets of cargo. The Coast Guard is investigating the circumstances and causal factors of the incident.
