Coast Guard actively monitors tropical storm Ophelia

NEW YORK — U.S. Coast Guard Sector New York is actively monitoring the forecasted arrival of inclement weather beginning later today, Friday, through the weekend. Current forecasts predict a potential for high winds with gusts up to 40 kts, 2-3 inches of total rainfall, coastal flooding of 1 to 1 ½ ft, dangerous rip currents and breaking surf, and seas building to 9 – 13 ft offshore.
