Coast Guard interdicts lancha, seizes 400 pounds of illegally caught fish off Texas coast

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coast Guard interdicted a lancha crew and seized approximately 400 pounds of illegally caught red snapper in waters subject to U.S. law enforcement off southern Texas Thursday.

U.S. Coast Guard heavy icebreaker returns to the U.S. following completion of Antarctic mission

SAN FRANCISCO – The Coast Guard Cutter Polar Star (WAGB 10) and crew returned to the United States Sunday, following a 138-day deployment to Antarctica to support Operation Deep Freeze 2024.

What: U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Harriet Lane and crew are expected to return to home port after their inaugural Operation Blue Pacific patrol in Oceania. Media are invited to watch Harriet Lane and crew moor at Pearl Harbor and families be reunited after being away for more than 70 days. US Coast Guard Cutter Escanaba returns home to Virginia after supporting Operation Vigilant Sentry

PORTSMOUTH, Va. —  The crew of U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Escanaba (WMEC 907) returned to their homeport in Portsmouth, Monday, following a 52-day patrol in the Florida Straits and Windward Passage. Escanaba’s crew contributed to the interdiction and repatriation of over 100 migrants from Haiti and Cuba while patrolling in the Coast Guard Seventh District’s area of responsibility. Escanaba deployed in support of the Homeland Security Task Force – Southeast initiative Operation Vigilant Sentry (OVS), which aims to disrupt and prevent unlawful migrant flow and human trafficking.

US Coast Guard Cutter Hamilton completes four-month deployment, returns to homeport in Charleston

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — The crew of the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Hamilton (WMSL 753) returned to their homeport in North Charleston, Friday, following a four-month maritime safety and security patrol in the Western Atlantic and Eastern Pacific Ocean. Patrolling in support of Homeland Security Task Force – Southeast's Operation Vigilant Sentry and Joint Interagency Task Force – South’s (JIATF-S) counterdrug mission, Hamilton’s crew interdicted four vessels trafficking illicit narcotics, apprehended 10 suspected drug smugglers, rescued 47 migrants on an unsafe voyage at sea, and assisted six mariners in distress.

Coast Guard suspends search for U.S. Marine off Luquillo, Puerto Rico

Coast Guard rescue crews suspended search efforts in support of local emergency response agencies for a 26-year-old U.S. Marine in Luquillo, Puerto Rico, Sunday. Still missing is Cpl. Samuel Wanjiru, a resident of Mass., who came into distress Wednesday afternoon in the beach area of “La Pared” in Luquillo, Puerto Rico. “We keep Cpl. Samuel Wanjiru and his family in our prayers, hoping they find strength and closure during this most difficult time,” said Capt. Jose E. Diaz, Coast Guard Sector San Juan commander. “The loss of life in Puerto Rico beaches during March has been quite surreal, including the loss of two servicemembers. I commend the efforts of all responders, who have done their utmost to find Cpl. Wanjiru and who have also responded to numerous cases this month resulting in dozens of lives saved, while also conducting efforts to prevent any further loss of life in our beaches. Unfortunately, we continue to face similar marine conditions and it’s imperative we remain ready and that beachgoers stay safe daily by monitoring weather advisories and heeding warning signs and red flag conditions to stay out of the water when necessary.”
