U.S. Coast Guard urges preparedness as hazardous maritime conditions approach

The U.S. Coast Guard is actively monitoring and preparing for the impact of hazardous maritime conditions in Washington and Oregon waters. Strong winds through the coastal waters and high surf conditions with large breakers will create hazardous conditions along the coast. Our primary concern is the safety and well-being of the public, and we urge all mariners and members of the public in the region to take precautions to ensure their safety.

Coast Guard stops illegal charter violating federal captain of the port order off Bradenton

CLEARWATER, Fla. — A Coast Guard Station Cortez law enforcement crew terminated an illegal uninspected small passenger vessel-for-hire operating on Anna Maria Sound, Thursday.

U.S. Coast Guard Forces Micronesia/Sector Guam, in partnership with Guam Fire Rescue and U.S. Navy Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 25 (HSC-25), successfully conducted a search and rescue operation for a distressed vessel 30 miles northwest of Guam, on Jan. 6, 2023, saving six boaters. The Joint Rescue Sub-Center, operated by U.S. Coast Guard watchstanders in Guam, received an urgent notification from Guam Fire Rescue about a 23-foot recreational vessel with six people aboard, initially identified as nationals of the People's Republic of China, experiencing severe difficulties. Multi-agency rescue operation led by U.S. Coast Guard successfully saves 6 boaters near Guam

SANTA RITA, Guam — U.S. Coast Guard Forces Micronesia/Sector Guam, in partnership with Guam Fire Rescue and U.S. Navy Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 25 (HSC-25), successfully conducted a search and rescue operation for a distressed vessel 30 miles northwest of Guam, on Jan. 6, 2023, saving six boaters. "This successful rescue operation highlights the strength of our partnerships and our commitment to saving lives at sea. Working seamlessly with our partners at Guam Fire Rescue, U.S. Navy HSC-25, and other agencies, we ensured a swift and effective response despite the conditions, including scattered showers and 6-foot waves," said Lt. Chelsea Garcia, the search and rescue mission coordinator for the operation. "Our coordinated efforts demonstrate our collective resolve to uphold maritime safety and security."

A team from U.S. Coast Guard Forces Micronesia/Sector Guam and the U.S. Coast Guard Cruise Ship National Center of Expertise conduct a Certificate of Compliance (COC) exam on the 1,036-foot Maltese-flagged cruise ship MSC Bellissima on its first-ever U.S. port call at the Port of Guam, on Jan. 3, 2024. The U.S. Coast Guard conducts COC exams for new or existing vessels that are embarking passengers from a U.S. port for the first time, carrying U.S. citizens as passengers with initial port calls at U.S. ports, or have undergone significant modifications or alterations including changes that affect structural fire protection or means of egress, in order to ensure these vessels, meet required safety and regulatory standards. This examination underscores the U.S. Coast Guard's role in maritime safety and its integral part in bolstering local commerce and tourism, which are lifelines of the island's economy.
