Update 2: U.S. Coast Guard restores VHF-FM radio communications Guam

SANTA RITA, Guam — The U.S. Coast Guard Forces Micronesia/Sector Guam crews successfully resolved the Rescue 21 issue, restoring VHF-FM radio communications in the Mariana Islands on the evening of Jan. 16, 2024. "We express our sincere gratitude for the public's patience and support from our partners during this brief communication disruption; ensuring the safety of all individuals remains our top priority," said Lt. Kira Adams, the command center chief at U.S. Coast Guard Forces Micronesia/Sector Guam's Joint Rescue Sub-Center. "In the face of ever-evolving challenges, our Information Systems and Electronics Technicians demonstrated significant fortitude and diligence."

Coast Guard medevacs U.S. citizen passenger from MS Nieuw Amsterdam cruise ship 100 miles north Puerto Rico

A Coast Guard MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter aircrew conducted the medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) of a passenger from the MS Nieuw Amsterdam cruise ship Monday afternoon, approximately 100 nautical miles north of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. A woman, 81, U.S. citizen, who experienced an open fracture injury in her left ankle required a higher level of medical care ashore.

Coast Guard suspends search for boater ejected from vessel near Coki Point Beach in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands

Coast Guard air and surface crews suspended the search for a missing boater, Monday afternoon, in the vicinity of Coki Point Beach and Thatch Cay in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.  Still Missing is Davaughn Todman, 51, who reportedly was ejected from a 30-foot white power boat after the vessel crashed and spun out of control several times. The Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency and St. Thomas Rescue continue leading ongoing efforts in this case.

Update 1: U.S. Coast Guard Forces Micronesia/Sector Guam continues to troubleshoot temporary VHF-FM radio communication disruption

SANTA RITA, Guam — U.S. Coast Guard Forces Micronesia/Sector Guam continues to address the ongoing temporary U.S. Coast Guard outage of VHF-FM radio communications, which is integral for maritime safety, on Jan. 15, 2024. "Our dedicated team of technicians is actively working to restore our full functionality as swiftly as possible," said Lt. Kira Adams, command center chief at the Forces Micronesia/Sector Guam Joint Rescue Sub-Center. "We understand the importance of VHF-FM radio communications for maritime safety and appreciate the patience and cooperation of the maritime community during this period. The safety and well-being of our mariners and waterway users remain our top priority."

Coast Guard concludes search for overturned vessel, releases survivor names

JUNEAU, Alaska - After 88 hours of searching over more than 850 nautical miles, the Coast Guard has suspended vessel relocation efforts Friday afternoon for an overturned vessel, pending the development of new information.
