Coast Guard rescues 2 French boaters from disabled sailing vessel, approximately 147 miles south of Puerto Rico

Coast Guard Cutters Vigilant and Richard Dixon crews rescued two boaters from a disabled sailing vessel, Thursday, in the Caribbean Sea, approximately 147 nautical miles south of Puerto Rico. Rescued are French citizens Robert Punginier, 77, and Marie Claude Durand, 50, who reportedly were disabled and adrift for over seven days.

Coast Guard suspends search for possible survivors of capsized migrant vessel in Camuy, Puerto Rico

The Coast Guard suspended the search for additional possible survivors of a capsized migrant boat just off the coast of Camuy, Puerto Rico, Thursday evening. So far, response agencies recovered two deceased migrants from the water and rescued 30 survivors, who remain in federal custody.  “We pray for the families of the deceased and of those whose fate remains unknown,” said Capt. José E. Díaz, Coast Guard Sector San Juan commander.  “We remind people that the dangers of unlawful irregular maritime migration voyages are always present.  I extend my thanks and appreciation to all Coast Guard, partner agency responders and the Good Samaritans who were instrumental in saving lives and preventing further loss of life in this case.”

Coast Guard, federal, local interagency responders search for possible survivors of capsized migrant vessel in Camuy, Puerto Rico

Coast Guard MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter aircrews and the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Donald Horsley continue searching with federal and local emergency response agencies, Thursday, for additional possible survivors of a capsized migrant boat just off the coast of Camuy, Puerto Rico. So far, response agencies recovered two deceased migrants from the water and rescued 30 survivors, who remain in federal custody.  Two survivors were transported to a local hospital Wednesday, including a four-month pregnant woman.

Coast Guard, Dominican Republic Navy rescue 33 migrants from disabled makeshift vessel in the Mona Passage

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — Coast Guard and Dominican Republic air and surface crews rescued 33 migrants from a disabled vessel, approximately 20 nautical miles northeast of Macao, Dominican Republic, The survivors were taking part in an unlawful irregular migration voyage from the Dominican Republic when their makeshift vessel became disabled and was reported to be taking on water.

Coast Guard repatriates 28 migrants to Dominican Republic, following interdiction of unlawful migration voyage in the Mona Passage

Coast Guard Cutter Donald Horsley’s crew repatriated 28 migrants to Dominican Republic, Tuesday, following the interdiction of an overloaded makeshift vessel in Mona Passage waters off the western coast of Puerto Rico.   One of the repatriated migrants transferred to Dominican Republic authorities has a standing warrant in the Dominican Republic for homicide.
