Coast Guard medevacs man from sailboat near Sabine, Texas

HOUSTON — The Coast Guard medevaced a 62-year-old man who sustained an injury aboard a sailboat approximately 10 miles south of Sabine, Texas, on Thursday.

Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a relay from Vessel Traffic Services Port Arthur personnel at 10:01 p.m., stating that a tanker crewman witnessed two adults waving for help aboard a 45-foot sailboat.

Watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast and directed the launch of an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Houston and a 45-foot Response Boat–Medium crew from Coast Guard Station Sabine.

The RB-M crew arrived on scene at 11:18 p.m. and embarked the boaters, one of whom sustained a lower body injury. The helicopter crew then hoisted the man and transported him to Ellington Field and into the care of emergency medical services personnel.
