UPDATE 3: Unified command continues response to vessel fire in Tacoma

TACOMA, Wash. — Crews continue their response to the fire aboard the fishing vessel Kodiak Enterprise moored in the Hylebos Waterway in Tacoma, Wednesday. Firefighting crews from Tacoma Fire Department and Resolve Marine continue to access interior spaces to put out hot spots and look for standing water. In the coming days, responders will ensure the ship is safe for investigators to get on board and for crews to proceed with salvage work, including removal of the reported 55,000 gallons of diesel onboard. The Coast Guard and NTSB will conduct an investigation into the cause of the fire.

Coast Guard Cutter Waesche returns home following counternarcotics patrol; $166M in contraband seized

The Coast Guard Cutter Waesche (WMSL 751) and crew returned to their Alameda homeport, Friday, following a 90-day counternarcotics patrol in the Eastern Pacific Ocean. The 418-foot national security cutter and crew patrolled more than 15,000 nautical miles conducting law enforcement and search-and-rescue operations in international waters off Central America and South America.

UPDATE 2: Unified command continues response to vessel fire in Tacoma

TACOMA, Wash. — The U.S. Coast Guard, Washington Department of Ecology, Tacoma Fire Department, Puyallup Tribe of Indians, and other agencies continue to respond to the fire aboard the Kodiak Enterprise fishing vessel moored in the Hylebos Waterway in Tacoma. The fire decreased in size today and firefighters have accessed interior spaces to overhaul ‘hot spot’ areas. Responders continue to apply cooling spray to the exterior of the vessel.

Update: Unified command responds to vessel fire in Tacoma, Washington

TACOMA, Wash. – A unified command, consisting of the Tacoma Fire Department, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Washington Department of Ecology and other agencies, is continuing its response Monday to a fire aboard the fishing vessel Kodiak Enterprise moored at Trident Seafoods in the Hylebos Waterway in Tacoma. Firefighting efforts have resulted in a substantial reduction in the vessel fire with improved smoke conditions. Tacoma Fire Department lifted the temporary shelter-in-place order at 6:40 a.m. Monday due to the improved smoke conditions. If conditions deteriorate, the order may be reinstated.

Coast Guard Cutter Polar Star returns home by Easter after 144-day Operation Deep Freeze 2023 mission

The Coast Guard Cutter Polar Star (WAGB 10) and crew returned to its homeport of Seattle, Saturday, following a 144-day deployment to Antarctica in support of Operation Deep Freeze 2023. This deployment marks the Polar Star’s 26th journey to Antarctica in support of Operation Deep Freeze, an annual joint military service mission to resupply the United States Antarctic stations, in support of the National Science Foundation (NSF) – the lead agency for the United States Antarctic Program (USAP). This year also marks the 63rd iteration of the annual operation.

Unified command responds to vessel fire in Tacoma, Washington

SEATTLE — The Tacoma Fire Department, the Coast Guard, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Washington Department of Ecology and other agencies are continuing their response to the fishing vessel, Kodiak Enterprise, that caught fire early Saturday morning while moored at Trident Seafoods in the Hylebos Waterway in Tacoma. To ensure the safety of the public, the City of Tacoma Fire Department is issuing a temporary shelter in place order for NE Tacoma, Browns Point and Dash Point neighborhoods. People in the aforementioned areas should remain indoors and limit exposures to smoke.
