U.S. Coast Guard, partners prepare for arrival of Typhoon Mawar to Guam, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands

SANTA RITA, Guam — U.S. Coast Guard Forces Micronesia/Sector Guam, federal, territorial, and port partners continue Monday, May 22, 2023, to prepare for Typhoon Mawar, expected to arrive Tuesday. Typhoon Mawar strengthened and is intensifying as it heads northwest. It is advisable to take advantage of the remaining time to prepare before tropical storm conditions arrive before the typhoon on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, and rapidly deteriorate. Conditions will gradually improve for eastern Yap and western Chuuk states of the Federated States of Micronesia.

The Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary celebrate National Safe Boating Week, May 20 to May 26, urging mariners and beachgoers to practice safe, secure and enjoyable recreational boating throughout Memorial Day weekend. Considered by many as the unofficial start to the recreational boating season, Memorial Day weekend is a time when many boaters take to the water, increasing the likelihood for search and rescue situations, machinery failures and other types of water accidents.

Coast Guard encourages public to exercise safe boating practices during New York Fleet Week 2023

NEW YORK  — The Coast Guard encourages members of the public to review and participate in safe boating practices during National Safe Boating Week and New York Fleet Week 2023. In conjunction with National Safe Boating Week on May 20-26, Fleet Week will take place in New York from May 24-30.  Fleet Week recognizes and honors military members and is historically a busy weekend for the boating community. Coast Guard urges boating safety this summer across PNW

SEATTLE — The Coast Guard urges boaters to be ready this National Safe Boating Week as summer nears the Pacific Northwest. This year, National Safe Boating Week takes place Saturday through May 26. This week of awareness promotes safe boating practices for recreational boaters to reduce preventable accidents and deaths. The Coast Guard encourages boaters to become safer, always ready boaters this 2023 boating season.

Coast Guard repatriates 29 migrants to the Dominican Republic, following multiple vessel interdictions in the Mona Passage

Coast Guard crews repatriated 29 migrants to the Dominican Republic Thursday, following multiple interdictions in Mona Passage waters off the west coast of Puerto Rico. The Coast Guard, along with Homeland Security Task Force – Southeast partners, maintains a continual presence with air, land, and sea assets in the Florida Straits, the Windward Passage, the Mona Passage and the Caribbean Sea, collaborating to protect safety of life at sea. With their combined multi-layered approach, they were able to interdict several irregular maritime migration events over the past days.
