Tug crew frees American Courage, freighter that ran aground in St. Clair River
DETROIT — The American Courage, a 617-foot lake freighter that ran aground in the St. Clair River this morning at 7:21 a.m. local, was successfully refloated around 7 p.m. with the help of towing vessels from Great Lakes Towing.
U.S. Coast Guard formally establishes Base Guam
SANTA RITA, Guam — The U.S. Coast Guard is proud to announce the establishment of U.S. Coast Guard Base Guam on Nov. 8, 2023, in a ceremony presided over by Rear Adm. Carola List, commander of Operational Logistics Command. Led by Cmdr. Dana Hiatt, Base Guam, will be pivotal toward enhancing the U.S. Coast Guard's mission support logistics in the region. This strategic move aligns with the Service's commitment to increase mission support throughout Oceania. Given Guam's vital importance to national security, this initiative takes center stage.

Charleston, S.C. – The crew of the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter James (WMSL 754) returned home to Charleston, Saturday, following a 113-day patrol in the Eastern Pacific Ocean. Patrolling in support of Joint Interagency Task Force-South, James worked alongside other Coast Guard cutters, Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security units, and international partners to conduct counter-drug operations.
Coast Guard Academy Unveils New Football Uniforms in Honor of Douglas Munro
New London, Conn. - The U.S. Coast Guard Academy revealed the new Bears football uniform on Tuesday, a tribute to the heroic legacy of Petty Officer Douglas Munro, the U.S. Coast Guard's only Medal of Honor recipient. These new uniforms celebrate the bravery and selflessness displayed by Munro during the Battle of Guadalcanal, where he made the ultimate sacrifice. Douglas Munro's courageous actions earned him the highest military decoration, the Medal of Honor. He selflessly used his Higgins boat to shield and evacuate Marines led by then Lt. Col. Chesty Puller, who found themselves under heavy enemy fire at Point Cruz, Guadalcanal. His unwavering devotion to duty and willingness to sacrifice his life to rescue his fellow servicemen exemplify the values upheld by the U.S. Coast Guard.

Public webcams installed on Little Brewster Island
Boston – Four new webcams have been installed on Little Brewster Island, offering free panoramic real-time views from Boston Lighthouse of the island and surrounding areas. The cameras enhance maritime safety by providing a picture of real-time sea conditions and visibility at the outer reaches of the harbor, allowing mariners to make informed decisions about their trip prior to leaving the dock.
Coast Guard investigates as WAPA oil pollution response crews contain oil spill in Lindbergh Bay, St. Thomas
Coast Guard pollution response personnel overseeing clean-up efforts at the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (WAPA) Randolph Harley Power Plant in St. Thomas discovered oil in the water on the eastern shoreside of Lindbergh Bay, Friday. The Coast Guard is investigating the source of this spill to determine if it is tied to the number 11 tank diesel discharge that occurred at the WAPA facility Oct. 25, 2023. Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment St. Thomas and Atlantic Strike Team personnel await forensic oil sample analysis from the Marine Safety Lab to identify the type of oil discharged into the water. This information may help identify a possible source and responsible party.
