Media Advisory: Media invited as Coast Guard establishes its first Junior ROTC unit in Great Lakes region at ASPIRA Business and Finance High School in Chicago

CHICAGO — Media are invited to attend as the Coast Guard and ASPIRA Business and Finance High School conduct a commissioning ceremony establishing the Great Lakes region’s first Coast Guard Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps unit on Thursday, Oct. 26 at 10 a.m.

An unlawful irregular migration voyage is interdicted Oct. 23, 2023, by Caribbean Border Interagency Group partner agencies off the west coast of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. Coast Guard repatriates 14 migrants to Dominican Republic, following unlawful voyage interdiction in Mona Passage

Coast Guard crews repatriated 14 migrants to Dominican Republic, Monday, following the interdiction of a grossly overloaded makeshift vessel in Mona Passage waters off the west coast of Puerto Rico. One other Dominican man interdicted in the group remains in federal custody and is facing federal prosecution at the U.S. District Court in Puerto Rico on a charge of attempted illegal re-entry into the United States under 8 U.S.C. 1326.

Marine inspectors from the U.S. Coast Guard Forces Micronesia/Sector Guam, under the authority of the Captain of the Port Guam, conduct a Certificate of Compliance (COC) examination and Port State Control inspection on the tank vessel Cindy Glory while in Guam, on Sept. 22, 2023. This inspection marked a significant milestone as it was the vessel's first COC and first time in U.S. waters. The Cindy Glory, a state-of-the-art 600-foot tanker built in 2023 and flagged out of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, underwent rigorous scrutiny during the inspection, where no deficiencies were found. Coast Guard sets Port Condition IV for all seaports in Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Coast Guard Captain of the Port San Juan set Port Condition IV, Monday, for all U.S. Virgins Islands and Puerto Rico seaports after Hurricane Tammy passed east of the islands and moved into Atlantic Ocean waters. During Port Condition IV, the ports are open to incoming and outgoing commercial vessel traffic, and maritime facilities may resume operations. Following a storm, the Captain of the Port may establish this Port Condition after a storm passes and there is no longer a threat or significant damage to the navigable waterways within the port area.
