Coast Guard rescues 2 hikers, dog from Deschutes National Forest, Oregon

ASTORIA, Ore. – The Coast Guard rescued two hikers and a dog after one of the hikers sustained a knee injury Sunday in Deschutes National Forest, Oregon.

U.S. Coast Guard hosts cadets from Japanese Coast Guard Training Ship Kojima

SANTA RITA, Guam — The U.S. Coast Guard hosted Capt. Kazushi Sakae and over 40 cadets from the Japanese Coast Guard training ship, Kojima, during their visit to Guam on June 12, 2024. The event marked a significant moment of international cooperation and camaraderie between the two maritime services. The Kojima's visit included a reception aboard the ship later that evening, attended by local leaders and partners, who reciprocated the warm hospitality extended by the Japanese Coast Guard. This visit is particularly notable as it marks the Kojima's first and last port call on Guam before the ship is replaced later this year. During the visit, three U.S. Coast Guard Academy cadets had the unique opportunity to share their recent experience of joining Japanese counterparts on the voyage to Guam. This journey created lasting memories and built strong professional relationships.

U.S. Coast Guard rescues disabled vessel near Galves Banks

SANTA RITA, Guam — The U.S. Coast Guard successfully rescued a disabled vessel, Uchan, and their crew approximately 25 miles offshore from Galves Banks on June 13, 2024. The operation involved a coordinated effort from the Joint Rescue Sub-Center (JRSC) Guam and U.S. Coast Guard Station Apra Harbor's 45-foot Response Boat-Medium.

U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Waesche visits Republic of Korea, bolsters relationships with Pacific ally

U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Waesche (WMSL 751) departed Pohang, the Republic of Korea, June 11, following several engagements with the Korea Coast Guard, U.S. Consul General Nolan Barkhouse and multiple Republic of Korea dignitaries. While moored in Pohang, the Waesche crew hosted Korea Coast Guard Commissioner General Kim Jong-Uk, Pohang Mayor Lee Kang-Deok, and U.S. Consul General Nolan Barkhouse for tours and meaningful conversation. The leaders discussed shared principles between the two coast guards and how to build upon best practices and strengthen maritime partnerships.
