SAN FRANCISCO — The Coast Guard and the San Francisco Fire Department rescued five boaters near Ocean Beach on Sunday
Sector San Francisco watchstanders received a call from the operator of a 35-foot boat beset by weather with five persons aboard at 1:23 p.m.
Watchstanders issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast, coordinated the launch of a Coast Guard Station Golden Gate 47-foot Motor Lifeboat boat crew, and diverted an Air Station MH-65 Dolphin helicopter air crew to assist.
San Francisco Fire Department launched to assist and transported the boaters on rescue vessels from the distressed 35-foot boat to the MLB.
The Dolphin air crew arrived on scene and hoisted one individual from the 35-foot boat.
The MLB boat crew arrived on scene with the vessel at approximately 2 p.m and embarked four persons from the SFFD rescue vessels onto the MLB. The Dolphin and MLB crews also hoisted one individual from the Dolphin onto the MLB. The MLB crew then returned to Travis Marina in Sausalito and disembarked all 5 boaters.
The unmanned vessel has since washed ashore and is hard aground on Ocean Beach, the owner of the vessel and an Incident Management Team from Sector San Francisco are on scene with the beached vessel for removal operations.
The vessel contains an estimated 200 gallons of diesel fuel onboard.
No injuries or environmental pollution have been reported.
