Coast Guard urges boating safety this summer across PNW

SEATTLE — The Coast Guard urges boaters to be ready this National Safe Boating Week as summer nears the Pacific Northwest. This year, National Safe Boating Week takes place Saturday through May 26. This week of awareness promotes safe boating practices for recreational boaters to reduce preventable accidents and deaths. The Coast Guard encourages boaters to become safer, always ready boaters this 2023 boating season.

Coast Guard repatriates 29 migrants to the Dominican Republic, following multiple vessel interdictions in the Mona Passage

Coast Guard crews repatriated 29 migrants to the Dominican Republic Thursday, following multiple interdictions in Mona Passage waters off the west coast of Puerto Rico. The Coast Guard, along with Homeland Security Task Force – Southeast partners, maintains a continual presence with air, land, and sea assets in the Florida Straits, the Windward Passage, the Mona Passage and the Caribbean Sea, collaborating to protect safety of life at sea. With their combined multi-layered approach, they were able to interdict several irregular maritime migration events over the past days.

New commanding officer at helm of USCGC Oliver Henry (WPC 1140)

SANTA RITA, Guam — Lt. Raymond Cerrato took command of USCGC Oliver Henry (WPC 1140) from Lt. Freddy Hofschneider in a change of command ceremony at Victor Pier in Apra Harbor, Guam, on Friday, May 19, 2023. Capt. Nicholas Simmons, commander of U.S. Coast Guard Forces Micronesia Sector Guam, presided over the ceremony and was joined by many local officials and dignitaries, including Rear Adm. Benjamin Nicholson, commander of Joint Region Marianas and representatives of both the Guam and Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands legislatures.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Coast Guard Sector Columbia River held a change of command ceremony Thursday in Portland. During the ceremony, Capt. Justin Noggle relieved Capt. Scott Jackson as the commander of Coast Guard Sector Columbia River.
