Coast Guard rebuilds Buck Island aids to navigation tower in U.S. Virgin Islands

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - Coast Guard Aids to Navigation Team Puerto Rico completed the rebuild of the Buck Island aids to navigation tower light just off Saint Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Sunday. The eight-day evolution resulted in a newly rebuilt tower light that is now fully operational and assisting maritime traffic seeking to enter Charlotte Amalie or West Gregory Channel.

Coast Guard repatriates, transfers 259 people to Haiti, Cuba, Bahamas

MIAMI — Coast Guard crews repatriated 166 people to Haiti, repatriated 27 people to Cuba and transferred 66 people to the Bahamas, Wednesday, following five interdictions off the coasts of Florida, Haiti and Cuba. The Coast Guard, along with Homeland Security Task Force – Southeast partners, maintains a continual presence with air, land and sea assets in South Florida, the Florida Straits and the Caribbean Sea, collaborating to protect safety of life at sea. With their combined multi-layered approach, they were able to interdict several illegal maritime migration events over the past week.

U.S. Coast Guard, Canadian and Alaska Army National Guard crews to conduct search and rescue exercises near Sitka, Alaska

The crews of Coast Guard Air Station Sitka, Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak, Royal Canadian Air Force 442 Squadron, Sitka Mountain Rescue, Coast Guard Cutter Douglas Denman and Juneau Army National Guard are scheduled to conduct multiple search-and-rescue (SAR) exercises next week in the areas surrounding Sitka.

PAGO PAGO, American Samoa – U.S. Coast Guard Sector Honolulu Incident Management Division, District Fourteen District Response Advisory Team, and Marine Safety Detachment American Samoa participated in a four-day oil spill response and exercise deployment training last week.
