Coast Guard Cutter Legare returns home to Virginia following living marine resources patrol, engagements with French navy

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Legare (WMEC 912) returned home to Portsmouth, Thursday, after a seven-week patrol in the Coast Guard’s First District area of operations. In support of Operation Atlantic Venture, Legare steamed more than 6,300 nautical miles, patrolling the coast of New England, New York, and near the Gulf of Maine, to conduct maritime safety missions, while bolstering the safety and sustainability of the marine ecosystem through enforcement of living marine resources regulations.

Coast Guard updates clean-up efforts for tank 11 diesel spill at the Randolph Harley Power Plant in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands

Coast Guard oversight efforts continue, Thursday, for ongoing Virgin Islands and Water and Power Authority (VIWAPA) clean-up operations at the Randolph Harley Power Plant in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, following the tank 11 diesel discharge that occurred at the facility, Oct. 25, 2023. Since the day of the incident, the original estimates of 33,600 gallons of No. 2 diesel discharged outside tank 11’s secondary containment have been updated and calculated to be over 50,000 gallons.

U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Bertholf departs Port Blair, India, conducts exercise with Indian Coast Guard

PORT BLAIR, India – U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Bertholf (WMSL 750) departed Port Blair, India, Saturday morning, and conducted two-day exercise ‘Sea Defender 2024,’ with the Indian Coast Guard (ICG). Bertholf’s stop in Port Blair marks the first time a U.S. Coast Guard cutter has called upon the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. During the port call, the crew of the Bertholf participated in multiple professional engagements and training opportunities. Bertholf crew and Indian Coast Guard members participated in operation ‘Sea Defender 2024,’ a two-day at-sea exercise designed to build upon best practices and strengthen maritime partnerships.
