Coast Guard to hold public hearing for Newark ship fire
NEW YORK — The Coast Guard, in conjunction with the National Transportation Safety Board, is scheduled to conduct a formal public hearing in January to consider evidence related to the fire that occurred aboard the Italian-flagged cargo vessel Grande Costa D’Avorio while docked at the Port of Newark, New Jersey. CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coast Guard and Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) interdicted five lancha crews and seized approximately 2,640 pounds of illegally caught red snapper in waters subject to U.S. law enforcement off southern Texas, Saturday.
U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Waesche returns home after 89-day counternarcotics patrol in Eastern Pacific Ocean
ALAMEDA, Calif. — Coast Guard Cutter Waesche (WMSL 751) and crew returned to homeport, Saturday, following an 89-day counternarcotics patrol in the Eastern Pacific Ocean. The 418-foot national security cutter and its crew patrolled more than 19,750 nautical miles conducting law enforcement and search and rescue operations in international waters off Central and South America. Waesche deployed with a Jacksonville, Florida, based Helicopter Interdiction Tactical Squadron (HITRON) MH-65 Dolphin helicopter and crew, members from Law Enforcement Detachment (LEDET) 101 and 102, and contractors who flew Scan Eagle, an advanced unmanned aircraft system.

McKinleyville, Calif. — A Coast Guard helicopter aircrew medically evacuated one person during a rescue 45 miles off the Northern California coast, Wednesday.

Embracing the Spirit: Father Mode's Vision for Unity and Fellowship in the Pacific
In a significant stride for international collaboration and spiritual guidance, Father Daniel Mode, the Chaplain of the Coast Guard, recently visited the U.S. Coast Guard Team Guam from Dec. 2 - 6, 2023. This visit follows the historic first International Coast Guard chaplain exchange, during which Father Mode spent time with the Philippine Coast Guard.
Update 03: Coast Guard recovers downed helicopter from Read Island
On Friday the Coast Guard recovered the downed MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter that crashed on Read Island on Nov. 13th during a rescue mission.

UPDATE: Unified command receives lab results linking NY, NJ cleanup efforts, identifies responsible party
NEW YORK – The unified command consisting of the Coast Guard, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, New York City Department of Environmental Protection, New York City Office of Emergency Management, and Monmouth County Department of Health, received oil sample lab results from the Coast Guard Marine Safety Laboratory Friday, linking together oil spill cleanup efforts in both New York and New Jersey. SAN DIEGO — The Coast Guard emphasizes the importance of caution and boating safety practices during San Diego's holiday parade of lights event in San Diego Harbor on Sunday. This event attracts many vessels and spectators, creating inherent hazards for both participants and onlookers. Those who choose to watch the event from the water should exercise extreme caution, remain aware of their surroundings and the increasing vessel traffic, and ensure that all navigation lights are on, and proper safety equipment is onboard.

U.S. Coast Guard conducts security boarding at Port of Guam, bolstering maritime security
SANTA RITA, Guam — The U.S. Coast Guard Sector Boarding Team, a key component of U.S. Coast Guard Forces Micronesia/Sector Guam, conducted a thorough security boarding of the 380-foot (116-meter) motor vessel Papa Mau, flagged from Antigua Barbuda, at the Port of Guam on Dec. 6, 2023. This general cargo vessel, arriving from Pohnpei in the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), was meticulously inspected upon reaching Guam and found to be in full compliance.

MULTIMEDIA RELEASE: Coast Guard crew offloads more than $239 million worth of cocaine in San Diego
SAN DIEGO — The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Waesche (WMSL 751) offloads approximately 18,219 pounds of cocaine, with an estimated street value of more than $239 million, on Wednesday in San Diego. The offload is a result of six separate suspected drug smuggling vessel interdictions or events off the coasts of Mexico and Central and South America by the Coast Guard Cutters Waesche and Active in November.
