FSM partners conduct successful SAR operation on the heels of exercise with U.S. Coast Guard

SANTA RITA, Guam — Partners in Pohnpei State, Federated States of Micronesia, successfully concluded a search and rescue (SAR) operation for an overdue vessel off Pohnpei on April 25, 2024, demonstrating the value of recent enhancements in regional SAR capabilities and coordination. This operation coincided closely with the Federated States of Micronesia SAR Exercise 2024, held from April 15-16 in Chuuk and April 18 in Pohnpei. The exercise involved comprehensive seminars and functional drills designed to strengthen SAR response across the region. Key components of the training included SAR system fundamentals, alerting procedures, communications, and a SAR OPS software demonstration, alongside an overdue vessel check sheet exercise.

CLEARWATER, Fla. — A Coast Guard Station Sand Key boat crew rescued a diver, Sunday, after she reportedly exhibited symptoms of decompression sickness aboard a commercial diving vessel, 16 miles west of Indian Rocks Beach.

US Coast Guard Cutter James to arrive in Buenos Aires, Argentina

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter James (WMSL 754) and its crew are scheduled to arrive, Monday, at the Port of Buenos Aires. This visit marks a significant moment in the ongoing partnership between the U.S. and Argentina, aimed at enhancing maritime security and combating illicit activities at sea. During this visit, the crew will also conduct joint drills on the high seas with their Argentine counterparts, emphasizing the collaborative spirit of this mission.

Coast Guard presents Gold Lifesaving Medal to Puerto Rican woman for saving 3 children in 2014

The Coast Guard presented the Gold Life Saving Medal to a Puerto Rican woman at Coast Guard Base San Juan, Friday. Aivelyn Díaz Rosado, 39, a resident of Toa Baja, Puerto Rico, was awarded the Gold Lifesaving Medal for her heroic actions on April 21, 2014, in which three children were saved from strong rip currents in Dorado, Puerto Rico. “Today I had the honor of formally presenting the Gold Life Saving Medal, on behalf of the Commandant, to Aivelyn Díaz Rosado for her heroic actions on April 21, 2014, that saved three children from drowning off a beach in Dorado, Puerto Rico,” said Capt. José E. Díaz, Sector San Juan commander.  “The Coast Guard is proud of Aivelyn and we wish her the very best in her future endeavors.”

Coast Guard repatriates 38 migrants to Dominican Republic following 2 interdictions near Puerto Rico

The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Heriberto Hernandez repatriated 38 migrants to Dominican Republic, Wednesday, following two interdictions of unlawful, irregular migration attempts near Puerto Rico.  The repatriated migrants were transferred to Dominican Republic authorities during a rendezvous with a Dominican Republic Navy vessel just off the Dominican Republic.  Two other interdicted migrants remain in U.S. custody facing criminal immigration charges in the U.S. District Court of Puerto Rico.
