Update 1: U.S. Coast Guard Forces Micronesia/Sector Guam continues to troubleshoot temporary VHF-FM radio communication disruption

SANTA RITA, Guam — U.S. Coast Guard Forces Micronesia/Sector Guam continues to address the ongoing temporary U.S. Coast Guard outage of VHF-FM radio communications, which is integral for maritime safety, on Jan. 15, 2024. "Our dedicated team of technicians is actively working to restore our full functionality as swiftly as possible," said Lt. Kira Adams, command center chief at the Forces Micronesia/Sector Guam Joint Rescue Sub-Center. "We understand the importance of VHF-FM radio communications for maritime safety and appreciate the patience and cooperation of the maritime community during this period. The safety and well-being of our mariners and waterway users remain our top priority."

Coast Guard searches for boater ejected from vessel near Coki Point Beach in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands

Coast Guard air and surface crews are searching for a missing boater, Sunday, in the vicinity of Coki Point Beach and Thatch Cay in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.  Missing is Todman Davaughn, 51, who reportedly was ejected from a 28 to 30-foot white power boat after the vessel crashed and spun out of control several times.

Coast Guard concludes search for overturned vessel, releases survivor names

JUNEAU, Alaska - After 88 hours of searching over more than 850 nautical miles, the Coast Guard has suspended vessel relocation efforts Friday afternoon for an overturned vessel, pending the development of new information.

Coast Guard repatriates 53 migrants to Dominican Republic, following interdiction of unlawful migration voyage in the Mona Passage 

Coast Guard Cutter Joseph Napier’s crew repatriated 53 migrants to Dominican Republic, Friday, following the interdiction of an overloaded makeshift vessel in Mona Passage waters off the western coast of Puerto Rico.    Cutter Joseph Napier’s crew transferred the migrant group to a Dominican Republic Navy vessel just off Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

Coast Guard Cutter Midgett returns to home port after a 129-day Alaska patrol

HONOLULU – The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Midgett (WMSL 757) and crew completed a 129-day deployment that included readiness training in and around southern California and 50 days on patrol in the Bering Sea, before returning to their home port in Honolulu.

U.S. Coast Guard Forces Micronesia/Sector Guam experiencing temporary VHF-FM radio communication disruption

SANTA RITA, Guam — U.S. Coast Guard Forces Micronesia/Sector Guam advises the public the Joint Rescue Sub-Center is currently experiencing an interruption in receiving communications over VHF-FM radio via the Rescue 21 towers, Jan. 12, 2024. This disruption is an unintended consequence of a routine and pre-planned router relocation to enhance our operational capabilities. During the shift, watchstanders transferred the guard to listen to the VHF-FM communications to colleagues in Hawaii, similar to the precautions taken during Typhoon Mawar. However, upon transferring listening back to watchstanders, it was determined neither watchstanders in Guam nor Hawaii could now hear traffic on VHF-FM. The Rescue 21, the advanced maritime computing, command, control, and communication system designed to locate mariners in distress efficiently, is not fully operational. Technicians are diligently working to resolve the issue. However, at this time, there is yet to be an estimated time for the return to full operational service.

Coast Guard rescues 9 migrants from sunken vessel near Dominican Republic

MIAMI — Coast Guard Cutter Joseph Napier’s crew and a unit from the Dominican Republic Navy combined efforts to rescue nine migrants from an unseaworthy vessel that sank near the coast of Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
