Revision to Coast Guard Guidance on Portable Accommodation Modules Now Available

The Coast Guard has revised CG-ENG Policy Letter 01-16, titled “Portable Accommodation Modules (PAM) Guidance,” to increase flexibility by incorporating additional design standards and to implement a risk-based inspection process that streamlines the compliance verification processes by eliminating unnecessary plan submittals and inspections.

Lithium Battery Guide for Shippers

On Nov 21st, 2024, the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) finalized a helpful compliance resource, Lithium Battery Guide for Shippers, to assist shippers to safely package lithium cells and batteries for transport by all modes, including vessel shipments, with new regulatory requirements based on cell or battery configuration as well as Watt-hour (Wh) rating.

Recordkeeping and Reporting Requirements to Document Environmental Compliance on Certain Commercial Vessels Request for Information

The Coast Guard seeks information about the recordkeeping and reporting procedures required under the Coast Guard ballast water regulations issued in 2012 and 2015 and the monitoring, recordkeeping, and reporting required under the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 2013 Vessel General Permit (VGP). The Coast Guard plans to use this information to evaluate new and updated solutions that inform data-driven policymaking, reduce the reporting and record-keeping burden on industry, and confirm environmental compliance.
