U.S. Coast Guard establishes Maritime Nuclear Policy Division

The Coast Guard recently announced the establishment of the Maritime Nuclear Policy Division. This new division, created within the Office of Design and Engineering Standards (CG-ENG), supports Coast Guard Force Design 2028 and administration priorities to revitalize American maritime industries and advance emerging technologies.

Publication of Cybersecurity Training and Incident Reporting Guidance and Policy Documents: Policy Letter 01-25 and Navigation and Vessel Inspection Circular (NVIC) 02-24, Change (CH) 1

The Coast Guard recently released CG-5PC Policy Letter 01-25, Cybersecurity for Personnel with Access to Information Technology (IT) or Operational Technology (OT) Systems, on October 10, 2025. This policy supports recent Cybersecurity in the Marine Transportation System regulations, specifically requirements stated under 33 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 101.650(d).

Final Rule: Cybersecurity in the Marine Transportation System – Implementation Timeline

The Coast Guard is implementing the final rule’s timeline as published in the final rule published in the Federal Register. The Coast Guard will also exercise its Captain of the Port authority to ensure cybersecurity requirements on foreign flag vessels entering United States ports are being met.

Final Rule: Cybersecurity in the Marine Transportation System

The Coast Guard has published a final rule in the Federal Register to update cybersecurity requirements for U.S.-flagged vessels, Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) facilities, and facilities subject to Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002 (MTSA).
