Coast Guard interdicts 16 migrants off the coast of Point Loma

SAN DIEGO — The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Petrel (WPB-87350) interdicted 16 aliens aboard a 25-foot sailboat, approximately 54 miles southwest, off Point Loma, Saturday.

A C-130 aircraft from Air Station Sacramento was able to vector in the location of the sailing vessel to the crew of the Petrel.

The cutter launched a boarding team was able to interdict the vessel without any use of force and found 16 aliens aboard the vessel, all claiming Mexican nationality.

All aliens aboard were transferred to the custody of the U.S. Border Patrol at Ballast Point, Saturday afternoon.
