NEW LONDON, Conn., — Approximately 285 young men and women of the incoming Class of 2030 arrived at the Coast Guard Academy, Monday, June 29, where they started Day One of their 200-week cadet training program.
Day One marks the start of Swab Summer, a seven-week training program designed to transform civilian students into military cadets. During their first day at the Academy, the Swabs (as the new cadets are called) were issued their uniforms, practiced drill, and underwent various administrative processing.
46 states and territories are represented in this year’s class. Also joining the class are 8 international students from Ghana, the Philippines, Ecuador, Mexico, and the Bahamas.
