Coast Guard concludes maritime safety, security operations for Sail250 Virginia in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. — The U.S. Coast Guard completed maritime safety and security operations for Sail250 Virginia, Tuesday, in Norfolk.

The Coast Guard worked alongside local, state and federal partners throughout Sail250 Virginia to ensure the safety and security of mariners, participating vessels and hundreds of thousands of spectators who attended the event.

“Our key command objective and commitment was to ensure a safe and secure Sail250 here in Virginia, that the public could be assured and any bad actors would be deterred,” said Capt. Peggy Britton, commander of Coast Guard Sector Virginia. “Thanks to the whole-of-government hard work and vigilance of our 271 responders serving 23 agencies, we’re proud to say we delivered as promised.”

The festival included well over 60 military vessels and tall ships from 20 nations, including America’s Tall Ship, Coast Guard Cutter Eagle (WIX 327).

The maritime festival now heads to Baltimore, the third Sail250 port of call, to continue the commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary.
