Coast Guard, partner agencies to enforce security zone for FIFA Fan Festival Miami

Coast Guard Southeast District

MIAMI — The Coast Guard and partner agencies are scheduled to establish and enforce a temporary security zone throughout the FIFA Fan Festival in Miami from June 13 to July 6 near Bayfront Park.

Coast Guard and local law enforcement marine units will enforce the security zone in Biscayne Bay from approximately Port Boulevard south to the entrance of the Miami River adjacent to Bayfront Park beginning at 6 a.m., June 13, until 6 a.m., July 6.

All vessels will be required to transit around the security zone at a steady speed and may not stop, or anchor except in the case of unforeseen mechanical failure or other emergencies. Any person or vessel forced to stop shall immediately notify the Captain of the Port Miami via VHF-FM channel 16.

"The Coast Guard is focused on safeguarding the public and maintaining a safe and secure maritime environment throughout the FIFA World Cup events,” said Capt. Frank Florio, commander, Coast Guard Sector Miami. “This effort is made possible through strong partnerships and close coordination with our maritime law enforcement partners."

All boaters are advised to monitor VHF-FM channel 16 and contact the Coast Guard or other nearby partner agencies in the event of a water emergency.

Mariners are reminded:

  • Don’t drink and boat.
  • Always wear a properly fitted Coast Guard-approved life jacket while underway.
  • Check the weather before going on the water.
  • File a float plan. Tell someone where you are going, and when you’ll be back.
  • Check to ensure all required safety equipment and radios are onboard, functional, and in good condition before going on the water.
