SAN DIEGO — U.S. Coast Guard Sector San Diego members hosted a wellness and resiliency event aimed at supporting the mental health and well-being of Coast Guard members and their families, at Coast Guard Sector San Diego, Thursday afternoon.

The event provided personnel with an opportunity to learn about the positive role animals can play in reducing stress, improving emotional well-being and supporting overall resilience. Participants interacted with rabbits in a relaxed setting while receiving information about animal assisted wellness and responsible pet ownership.

The event was organized with support from the Coast Guard Enlisted Association and local community volunteers who shared information on rabbit care and the benefits companion animals can provide.

“The Coast Guard recognizes that operational demands can place unique stressors on service members and their families,” said Capt. Robert Tucker, commander of U.S. Coast Guard Sector San Diego. “Events that encourage connection, stress reduction and personal well-being support the service’s commitment to maintaining a healthy and resilient workforce.”

Founded in 1992, the San Diego House Rabbit Society is a volunteer driven organization that rescues domestic rabbits and educates the public on proper rabbit care throughout San Diego and Riverside counties.
