MIAMI – A U.S. Coast Guard Station Key West boat crew rescued two kayakers, Sunday, after their kayaks overturned in the vicinity of Fort Zachary Taylor.
Both kayakers were wearing life jackets and brought ashore with no injuries reported.
911 dispatch operators notified Coast Guard Sector Key West watchstanders at approximately 12:30 p.m. The Station Key West rescue crew arrived on scene at approximately 12:50 p.m., and located both kayakers.
“Both kayakers were wearing life jackets, which played a critical role in keeping them safe,” said Ryan Andzelik, search and rescue mission manager assigned to Coast Guard Sector Key West. “We want to remind all mariners to check local weather conditions before heading out on the water. Even short trips can become dangerous if the sea state changes unexpectedly”
