Coast Guard East District units prepare for Hurricane Erin

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Crews around the Coast Guard’s East District are preparing for the potential impacts of Hurricane Erin, Tuesday.

Aircrews, cutters, boat crews, and command centers across the region are actively staging and preparing to respond to any potential impacts from the storm.

Hurricane Erin is expected to cause high winds and waves, along with life-threatening rip currents throughout the eastern U.S. Mariners are encouraged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions ahead of the storm. It is recommended to stay clear of beaches due to potential hazardous conditions.

Once the hurricane passes, and as soon as conditions are safe for crews to operate, Coast Guard and local port partners will evaluate the need to provide assistance as necessary.

Mariners can check the local port conditions via the U.S. Coast Guard Navigation Center.
