OREGON INLET, N.C. – The Coast Guard rescued four people Monday, near Oregon Inlet.
Coast Guard Sector North Carolina watchstanders received a report of four people aboard a disabled 27-foot vessel at anchor and taking on water due to the rough sea state.
Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet launched two 47-foot Motor Life Boat crews, due to the breaking-bar conditions of up to 8-foot surf. The MLB crews arrived on scene, where one crew rescued the four people while the other crew safely towed the vessel over the bar.
The people and the vessel were transferred to commercial salvage who safely brought them to shore.
“Our crews continuously train in a variety of conditions, similar to these, so we are capable of ensuring safe and swift rescues during maritime emergencies,” said Chief Petty Officer Adam Preiser, executive petty officer of Station Oregon Inlet. “We encourage all mariners to implement safe boating practices such as checking the weather before getting underway, verifying your vessel has all required safety gear, as well as having a contingency plan in case of an emergency.”
