And the rockets' red glare: a booming good Independence Day

By Airman 1st Class Luis Loza Gutierrez Public Affairs

More than 20,000 people gathered around the banks of the Concho River in downtown San Angelo to enjoy the 2007 All American Pops Concert July 3 at the Bill Aylor Sr. Memorial River Stage.

The San Angelo Community Band and the San Angelo Symphony Orchestra celebrate another year of existence for the "Good 'ol U.S.A." with stellar, musical performances.

The event featured live musical performances by the symphony. Musical selections for the evening included patriotic songs such as the Star Spangled Banner and America the Beautiful. Col. Richard Ayres, 17th Training Wing commander, said a few words of appreciation on behalf of Goodfellow Air Force Base.

A total of 20 members from the Ft. Concho, Ft. Griffin and Ft. Chadbourne infantry, artillery and cavalry fired shots from three historic cannons. The boom from the cannons signaled the start of the concert and enhanced the impact of the sound generated by the music.

More than 60 members from various organizations from Goodfellow Air Force Base, such as the Color Guard participated in the event.

The evening literally ended with a bang as guests enjoyed a fire show that lasted more than 30 minutes.
