U.S. Coast Guard Pacific Southwest Phone: 206-815-6689

SAN DIEGO — The Coast Guard has suspended its search Monday night pending further developments for a reported seven missing individuals after a panga-style vessel overturned in the vicinity of Del Mar beach.

The seven missing individuals were reported to be missing Monday morning after survivors of an overturned panga-style vessel reported that there were missing and unaccounted-for people to local first responders.

At approximately 6:30 a.m. Coast Guard Sector San Diego watchstanders received the report of the overturned panga-style vessel from a local dispatch, reporting the three individuals had been found diseased and four more were located in need of medical attention. After interviewing the injured survivors, first responders were able to determine that approximately seven more individuals were unaccounted-for.

Coast Guard Sector San Diego watchstanders then directed the launch of an Air Station San Diego MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter, Station San Diego 45-foot response boat-medium, Air Station Sacramento C-27 Spartan aircraft, and the Cutter Sea Otter to assist in the search effort for the unaccounted-for individuals.

In total, the responding assets searched for a combined nearly 28 hours, covering more than 520 square nautical miles.
