MEDIA ADVISORY: Coast Guard, state and local first responders to conduct boat drills on Ohio River in Kentucky and Indiana

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Coast Guard, local, county and state agencies will conduct law enforcement drills on the Ohio River in the Port of Louisville, Wednesday.


WHAT: The Coast Guard, state and local first responders will conduct law enforcement drills with a commercial towing and passenger vessel on the Ohio River.


WHEN: Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to noon.


WHERE: Law enforcement drills will take place on the Ohio River between mile markers 598 and 604.


WHO: Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources; Indiana Department of Natural Resources; Indiana State Police; Kentucky State Police; Louisville Metro Police Department; Louisville Fire Department; Jeffersonville Police and Fire Departments; Anchorage-Middletown Fire and EMS; Pleasure Ridge Park Fire Department; and New Albany Fire Department.


The purpose of the drills is to enhance maritime incident response for law enforcement and fire/rescue agency personnel who may respond to a maritime incident occurring in the Ohio River region.


The drills include a wide range of boat tactics and emergency response procedures. Multiple agency responder boats displaying flashing lights will operate near a towing vessel pushing barges between Ohio River mile markers 598 and 604 and near the Louisville waterfront wharf and passenger vessels.
