MIAMI — A U.S. Coast Guard Station Miami Beach boat crew rescued two people, Monday, after their personal watercraft began taking on water near Government Cut.
No injuries or medical concerns were reported.
Coast Guard Sector Miami watchstanders received notification from Miami-Dade dispatch at approximately 2:30 p.m. reporting a green and white personal watercraft taking on water with two people aboard.
Sector Miami issued an urgent marine information broadcast and diverted a Coast Guard Station Miami Beach crew aboard a 36-foot response boat to assist.
The Coast Guard crew arrived on scene alongside a Miami-Dade Fire Rescue boat and safely recovered both people from the water. The crew then placed the personal watercraft in tow and transported both individuals and the vessel to Crandon Park Marina.
The Coast Guard reminds mariners to wear a properly fitted life jacket while underway and to ensure their vessel is equipped with appropriate safety and communication equipment.
“We’re proud of our crews for helping save two lives after their personal watercraft began taking on water,“ said Petty Officer 3rd Class Kellen Polk, a Coast Guard Station Miami Beach coxswain. “This is what we do. We train for moments like this, and our goal is always to save lives and bring people home safely.”
