PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Coast Guard is scheduled to welcome the Reliance-class medium endurance cutter USCGC Venturous (WMEC 625) to its new homeport at Base Portsmouth, July 10, 2026.

The arrival of Venturous marks the first of two medium endurance cutters transitioning to Virginia this month, with the Reliance-class medium endurance cutter USCGC Resolute (WMEC 620) also scheduled to rehome to Base Portsmouth next week.
About the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Venturous:
The Coast Guard Cutter Venturous is a 210-foot Reliance-class medium endurance cutter. The 210-foot platform is a versatile workhorse of the Coast Guard fleet, built to execute a wide variety of offshore missions including search and rescue, drug and migrant interdiction, law enforcement, homeland security, and marine environmental protection. By relocating to Portsmouth, Venturous and its crew will be strategically positioned to continue projecting Coast Guard presence and executing critical maritime operations throughout the Atlantic Area.
The Venturous motto is Nemo Supra, which means None Better. Built by the American Shipbuilding Company in Lorain, Ohio, Venturous had its keel laid on May 22, 1967, and was commissioned on August 16, 1968. The cutter initially homeported in San Diego, California, before spending the next 27 years operating out of various ports, including Astoria, Oregon. On February 11, 1994, Venturous was temporarily decommissioned at the Coast Guard Yard in Baltimore, Maryland, to undergo an 18-month major maintenance availability. Upon recommissioning, Venturous was reassigned to St. Petersburg, Florida, which served as the cutter's homeport until its 2026 transition to Portsmouth, Virginia.
