Coast Guard Reserve Unit United States Northern Command holds change of command ceremony

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The crew of Coast Guard Reserve Unit United States Northern Command (CGRU USNORTHCOM) held a change of command ceremony, Friday, June 12, on Peterson Space Force Base.

During the ceremony, Capt. Jennifer T. Loth transferred command of CGRU USNORTHCOM to Capt. Ian G. Brosnan.

Rear Adm. Tiffany Danko, assistant commandant for Workforce Management, presided over the ceremony.

Brosnan assumes command after previously serving as the senior reserve officer for the Oceania District.

“I am honored to be given the opportunity to command CGRU USNORTHCOM,” said Brosnan. "The Coast Guard has a long and proud tradition of joint service, and I look forward to continuing that tradition with this excellent crew."

During the ceremony, Loth was awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal for her leadership of the unit.

"The Coast Guard Reserve Unit USNORTHCOM brings unmatched agility and expertise to the homeland defense mission. By expanding our capabilities into emerging domains like Counter-UAS, intelligence collections, cyber incident response, and Arctic exercises, providing over 2,300 days of support to USNORTHCOM, our members demonstrated what it means to build on the past and prepare for the future fight,” said Loth. “The men and women of this unit faced a demanding operational tempo—from hurricane response to international joint exercises—but through their dedication and resilience, they delivered exceptional results every time. Serving as their commanding officer has been the greatest honor of my career."

Following the change of command, Loth retired after 30 years of service.

The change of command ceremony marks a transfer of total responsibility and authority from one individual to another. It is a time-honored tradition, conducted before the assembled crew, as well as honored guests and dignitaries to formally demonstrate the continuity of the authority within a command.
