KEY WEST, Fla. — A Coast Guard Station Marathon boat crew rescued three boaters, Sunday, after their vessel capsized approximately 5 miles south of Little Palm Island.
The three boaters were transported to Bahia Honda State Park with no injuries reported.
At approximately 5:45 p.m., Coast Guard Sector Key West watchstanders received a 911 transfer from the Monroe County Sherriff’s Office reporting an overturned vessel with three people in the water.
Watchstanders directed the launch of a Station Marathon boat crew which located and rescued the three boaters.
A safety marine information broadcast was issued for the capsized vessel which was left anchored at sea. The vessel's owner plans to coordinate salvage efforts.
“Our boat crew responded quickly and efficiently to locate all three individuals,” said Petty Officer 3rd Class Dalton Henry, the Station Marathon coxswain during the case. “Mariners should always wear a properly fitted life jacket as emergencies can occur with little warning.”
