Coast Guard PADET Texas - Office: (281) 464-4810 / After Hours: (832) 293-1293

GALVESTON, Texas — Coast Guard crews assisted a 17-year-old male Monday after he sustained a shark bite injury aboard a recreational vessel offshore Galveston.

Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received notification from the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office reporting a vessel with three people aboard transiting toward Galveston Yacht Basin with an injured teen onboard. The vessel later became disabled near the Galveston South Jetties.

Watchstanders directed the launch of a Coast Guard Station Galveston Response Boat-Medium boatcrew, who arrived on scene and transferred the injured teen and his father aboard the Coast Guard vessel.

The patient was transported to awaiting emergency medical services personnel at Coast Guard Base Galveston in stable condition.
