MEDIA ADVISORY: Media invited to Coast Guard command center tour, false alert briefing in Juneau, Alaska

JUNEAU, Alaska – The media is invited to tour the Coast Guard command center in Juneau Tuesday, May 19, to learn about command center operations and the impacts of false emergency notifications known as “false alerts.”

False alerts can unnecessarily redirect personnel and assets from an emergency and put first responders in unnecessary danger.

  • What: Media will be provided an inside look at the Coast Guard Arctic District command center to learn about command center operations and the impacts of false emergency notifications. The event will also include an informational presentation and an opportunity to interview command center subject matter experts.
  • When: Tuesday May 19 from 9:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.
  • Where: Hurff A. Saunders Federal Building, 709 W 9th St, Juneau, AK 99801. Please arrive prior to 9:15 a.m. and wait in the lobby and a Coast Guard Public Affairs representative will escort you upstairs. Bring a valid government-issued ID.

Media will need to provide details about their electronics prior to entering the command center. This includes the make, model, and serial number of each device. Coast Guard personnel may need to review captured imagery to ensure operations security.
