SAN DIEGO — The Coast Guard interdicted one suspected illegal alien approximately 3 miles north of the maritime boundary line, Wednesday.
At approximately 1:20 a.m., watch standers at the Joint Harbor Operations Center received notification of a personal watercraft transiting northbound into U.S. waters and diverted a boatcrew from Maritime Safety and Security Team Seattle to intercept.
The boatcrew initiated pursuit, causing the operator of the personal watercraft to throw one passenger overboard. The operator then conducted a series of evasive maneuvers to avoid being intercepted.
The Coast Guard boatcrew recovered the person from the water, and conducted a medical assessment of the individual who was not injured.
The individual claimed Romanian nationality and was transferred to Imperial Beach Border Patrol custody at Ballast Point.
