Coast Guard, partners search for missing swimmer off Maui

HONOLULU — The Coast Guard and partner agencies are searching for a missing man in the water off Maui Friday.   

Missing is John Weens, 75, who was last seen snorkeling in the vicinity of Black Rock near Kaʻanapali Beach. He is approximately 5 feet, 10 inches tall. 

Coast Guard Sector Honolulu command center watchstanders received a report at 6:38 p.m. from Maui Fire Department personnel, who also requested assistance with the search.   

Watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast and coordinated the launch of a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew from Coast Guard Station Maui and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point. The crew of fast response cutter USCGC Oliver Berry (WPC 1124) is slated to join the search Saturday.
