JUNEAU, Alaska – The Coast Guard rescued two people from a fishing vessel that ran aground in Pasagshak Bay offshore Kodiak, Wednesday.
No injuries were reported.
At 7:08 a.m., watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Western Alaska and U.S. Arctic command center received a report from the fishing vessel Quantum they were taking on water approximately two miles offshore Kodiak.
Watchstanders issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast, and good Samaritan vessels confirmed two people were on board wearing survival suits.
At 7:19 a.m., watchstanders launched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak.
The helicopter crew arrived on scene at approximately 8:30 a.m., hoisted both crewmembers from the vessel, and transported them to awaiting emergency services in Kodiak.
“This case showcased the importance of maintaining proper emergency equipment like the survival suits donned by the crew of the Quantum,” said Ens. Anya Charm, command duty officer at Coast Guard Sector Western Alaska and U.S. Arctic command center.
