Coast Guard rescues 3 divers off Palm Beach 

MIAMI — A Coast Guard Station Lake Worth Inlet boat crew rescued three divers, Sunday, after losing sight of their vessel near Palm Beach.  

The three divers were transported ashore to awaiting emergency medical services in stable condition. 

Coast Guard Southeast watchstanders received a notification via a Satellite Emergency Notification Device at 4:09 p.m., prompting the launch of rescue crews from both Coast Guard Station Lake Worth Inlet and Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office.  

At approximately 5 p.m., the Station Lake Worth Inlet boat crew located and rescued all three missing divers one mile east of Palm Beach.  

“It was a collective effort from everyone to save these divers,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Vallery Massey, a Coast Guard Station Lake Worth Inlet boat crew member. “Thanks to their emergency equipment we were able to bring them back home to their families.”   

The Coast Guard suggests the following practices to help increase recreational scuba diver safety: 

• Carry an emergency transmitter in the event you get separated or experience distress. 

• Plan the dive, ensure you have the appropriate gear, and conduct a safety check on the diving equipment. 

• At depth, follow dive table parameters to prevent decompression sickness and air embolisms. 

• Seek medical advice on your health concerns or medications taken prior to diving. 

• Do not consume alcohol or drugs before diving. 

• Always dive with a buddy, qualified instructor or experienced guide.
