SEATTLE — A unified command consisting of the Coast Guard, Washington Department of Ecology, and Washington Department of Natural Resources has been established to respond to a sunken 108-foot vessel in Sinclair Inlet near Bremerton, Washington.
The Coast Guard accessed the Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund and contracted an oil spill response company to mitigate environmental impacts and raise the vessel. Approximately 2600-feet of boom has been deployed. Divers also plugged fuel vents to reduce the risk of further discharge. Crews from the Coast Guard and Washington Department of Ecology are conducting assessments to determine if the shoreline or wildlife have been affected.
Cairdeas is a 108-foot wooden hull WW2-era yacht. The Coast Guard received initial reports that the vessel was sinking on Sunday afternoon.
Vessels transiting Sinclair Inlet are requested to stay clear of response equipment and monitor VHF channel 16 for any broadcasts from the Coast Guard.
