SAN DIEGO — The Coast Guard rescued an 11-year-old child from their capsized sailing vessel inside the San Diego Bay, Wednesday afternoon.
While on patrol an Auxiliarist aboard a Coast Guard Aids-to-Navigation Team (ANT) 26-foot Trailerable Aids-to-Navigation Boat (TANB) heard a call for help. The TANB crew pulled alongside the sailing vessel, deployed a life ring, brought the child onboard and gained control of the sinking sailboat.
The crew then took the sailboat in tow to a nearby pier on Shelter Island, where they began dewatering the vessel. The father of the child was nearby in a separate sailboat and met the ANT boat at the pier.
No injuries or medical concerns were reported.
