OMAHA, Neb. — The U.S. Coast Guard opened a new recruiting office Saturday in Omaha, Nebraska, as part of Force Design 2028 (FD2028) workforce initiatives.
This new office will serve as a regional hub to engage communities across Nebraska, western Iowa, eastern South Dakota and northern Kansas, connecting individuals with opportunities in active duty and reserve positions in the Coast Guard.
The opening of the Omaha office supports the "People" campaign of FD2028, which aims to grow the workforce by 15,000 personnel by fiscal year 2028. In addition to expanding accessions, FD2028 emphasizes retention and developing streamlined pathways into service to support evolving mission demands.
"The opening of our new recruiting office in Omaha reflects the Coast Guard’s commitment to meeting the future head-on,” said Capt. Benjamin Keffer, commanding officer of the Accessions Service Center. “As part of our Force Design 2028 initiative, we are modernizing how and where we recruit—ensuring we’re reaching the best talent in communities across the country, not just on the coasts. Omaha is a growing hub of driven, service-minded individuals, and this office strengthens our ability to build a force that is more agile, capable and ready to maintain the Coast Guard as the world’s premier maritime fighting force and first responder."
Even before it was officially opened on Saturday, the Coast Guard recruiters in Omaha helped local individuals join the Service, and are a vital part of the recruiting success being seen across the nation. As of Wednesday, July 16 the Coast Guard had recruited over 5,200 new members and expects to meet recruiting goals for the second year in a row.
