HONOLULU – The Coast Guard suspended its search at 7 p.m. Friday for a woman in the water who went missing off the coast of Oahu, Hawaii.
Missing is Khilye Hamadani, 21, who was last seen at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport Monday night.
In total, Coast Guard and partner agency crews searched 1200 square miles for over 100 combined hours.
“Suspending a search is one of the most difficult decisions to make and only made after careful consideration of all available information,” said Lt. Cmdr. Michelle Rice, search and rescue mission coordinator for Sector Honolulu. “We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Ms. Hamadani during this difficult time.”
Search efforts began after Coast Guard Sector Honolulu command center watchstanders received a report at 2 p.m. Tuesday from Honolulu County Fire Department dispatchers regarding a missing person.
Watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast and at 3 p.m. Tuesday, coordinated the launch of a Coast Guard Station Honolulu 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew, an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew and an Air Station Barbers Point HC-130 Hercules airplane crew. Coast Guard Cutter Joseph Gerczak (WPC 1126) was also launched for the search.
