CLEARWATER, Fla. — A Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater aircrew medevaced a 58-year-old man, Thursday, experiencing severe abdominal pain approximately 170 miles southwest of Clearwater.
The man was safely transported to Tampa General Hospital for a higher level of care.
Coast Guard Eighth District watchstanders received a phone call at 9:44 a.m. from the Seven Oceans, a commercial pipe laying vessel, reporting a crew member experiencing a medical emergency.
Due to the vessel’s location, Eighth District watchstanders requested assistance from the Seventh District. Watchstanders coordinated the launch of an Air Station Clearwater MH-60 Jayhawk aircrew and a C-27J Spartan aircrew to support.
“This case is a testament to the seamless coordination between Coast Guard districts where multiple watchstanders and aircrews worked to swiftly ensure the patient received the higher level of medical care they urgently needed,” said Mr. Sean Connett, Seventh District command duty officer. “It's a powerful example of how our training, communication, and commitment come together to save lives.”
