Coast Guard suspends search for 3 boaters near Mukilteo, Wash.

SEATTLE — The Coast Guard suspended its search for three missing boaters near Mukilteo, Washington, at 10:45 p.m., Wednesday night.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound received a mayday call from a recreational boater approximately 1 p.m., reporting that a 20-foot recreational vessel, with four people onboard, had taken on water and capsized northeast of Mukilteo.

One male was rescued from the water by a good Samaritan and transferred to EMS personnel on shore and taken to Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett for treatment.

A Coast Gurd MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Port Angeles, a 29-foot response boat small crew and a 45-foot response boat medium crew from Station Seattle, the crew of the 87-foot Coast Guard Cutter Adelie, along with crews from the Everett Fire Department, the Everett Police Department and the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, were involved in the search.

“This is a tragic event and suspending a search without finding the individuals you are searching for is one of the hardest decisions to make,” said Coast Guard Lt. Cmdr. Jason Acuna, search and rescue mission coordinator for Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound. “Our thoughts are with the missing individual’s families during this difficult time.”

Weather on scene was reported to be 1-foot seas and 6 knot winds.
