Coast Guard members to demonstrate, discuss boating safety for Memorial Day Weekend

WHO: Coast Guard members, Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 18 members 

WHAT: Coast Guard members will offer a boat ride, conduct man overboard drills, demonstrate emergency equipment usage, and provide interviews on boating safety  

WHEN: Thursday, May 22, 9 a.m. 

WHERE: Coast Guard Station Honolulu, 400 Sand Island Pkwy, Honolulu, HI 96819 

 

HONOLULU — Media are invited to view demonstrations and interview Coast Guard members at Coast Guard Station Honolulu Thursday.

The event is scheduled to be held at 9 a.m.

Station Honolulu crewmen will discuss the importance of life jackets, boating sober, emergency communications equipment and paddlecraft safety in order to prepare boaters for Memorial Day Weekend. 

The crew will then take interested media members on a boat ride and demonstrate rescue techniques and usage of safety equipment. 

The station is hosting the event as part of National Safe Boating Week, which spans May 17-23. This annual event is held the week before Memorial Day and marks the start of the Safe Boating Campaign, a global initiative promoting responsible boating and safety awareness. 

Media interested in attending should RSVP no later than 5 p.m. May 21 by emailing hawaiipacific@uscg.mil. Seats on the boat ride are limited and will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
